Guatemala 2014 - part three

Monday morning started around 6:45 for our morning devotional.  Hannah White led this morning.  Breakfast was scrambled eggs and fried platanos.  We left the hotel for our first day in the village at 8a.  We will be setting up in the community center each day for the clinic. 

After arriving we all got busy setting up shop for the day.  We had rope and sheets for 4 nurse/doctor stations, an eye glass station, an area for the pharmacy and an area for visitation while prescriptions were filled.

We had known before arriving that we would be going to the school each day to speak to the kids.  Erin had planned a short talk on eating healthy, washing your hands, and wearing shoes.  We had the opportunity to also tell the kids the story of Jesus.  Sherry and Hannah talked about brushing and flossing too. The first day we went to the school, along with our interpreters Amalia and Gustavo.  We met with 4 classes of kiddos.  

We were back at the clinic around 11a.  I mostly helped in the pharmacy and helped with lunch duty during the week.  Erin went to work nursing. 

Sometimes you have to improvise in Guatemala. 

 

We packed up and left the village around 4p.  Since the drive is fairly short, we were able to get a short rest in before having dinner at 6:30p.  We followed dinner each night with a time of reflection - dubbed the rose ceremony.  We each talked about our "rose" for the day - something good, our "thorn" - something not so good, and our "bud" - something we looked forward to for tomorrow. 

The clinic had 141 patients today.
