Real Life Funny Stuff

I found a couple of pictures that were just too funny not to blog about...

A couple of weeks ago I got this bright idea that it was time to talk to Blake and Evan about the birds and the bees. Long story short, I get the book that my mom read me when I was little out of the archives of my mom's house, (copyright 1971, no lie) and sat down to read it to the boys. It starts out with pictures of a flower being pollinated, then a chicken laying an egg, then a puppy having a litter of puppies, then a mommy having a baby. It's pretty basic, but with all the correct terminology.

Blake is sitting in the floor the whole time, refusing to look at the pictures, and rolling around groaning with a pillow over his head. But, of course, Evan is ALL EARS, loving every minute of it. He asked way more questions than I really wanted to answer, while Blake seriously looks like he's having a seizure in the floor.

So, after quite a long talk with Travis, and still not alot of response from Blake I thought I would just offer to give him the book to read at his leisure. I approached it like it was a "science" book, and told him that since i knew he LOVED science, I thought he would want to read this book on his own time. I left it on his bedside table and left.

A few hours later this is what I found laying on my pillow...

This was from just the other night. My parents had come over to eat supper with us, and after supper everyone sat down in the hearth room to hang out. I looked up from the sink and this is what I saw...

Blake playing with my mom's i-phone, Poppy on his i-phone, Evan playing his DS, mom reading her Kindle, and Travis playing with his phone. Seriously, that is pretty much a normal view of my family at any given time. Sad, huh??

Red Note

A few nights ago, Evan got in some trouble. I can't even remember now what he did. Anyway, Travis got on to him and sent him to his room. Evan got really dramatic and cried and slammed a couple of doors. Then it got really quiet. That's never a good sign with Evan. About 15 minutes later I went in our bedroom and this is what I found on our pilllows:

In case you can't read "kindergarten", it says: Mr. Evan, Red nut (note) for being men (mean). Sign he (here). So, don't be getting in trouble at our house, because you'll have to move your clip and you'll get a red "nut" that has to be signed!! :)

This is the sign laying on Evan's desk. Notice that "E" for Evan is on green. "B" for Blake is on yellow. And "E" for Erin and "T" for Travis are both on red. A little bitter I think...

Just another reason I love being Evan's mom...

I HEART Walgreens!!

I know it's crazy, but there are days when I truly LOVE Walgreens. There is just no other store that can supply all my needs for practically nothing. And, it's fun. Here's my haul from today...

My totals after coupons equaled $30.47. I used my Walgreens rebate gift card from last month which was $21.45. (That's the ticket to making these deals work ~ keep using your rebate gift card for more rebate stuff). So, my total cash out of pocket was $9.02.

But the beautiful part is that I also have $12.00 in register rewards to use on my next trip, $14.26 that I will get back on my rebate gift card (for buying the FREE after rebate items: Axe hair gel, Walgreens "Excedrin", and Wal-Zyr aka Zyrtec), and .99 on my Prescription Savers Card (10% back on Walgreens brand items).

So, for the day I am ahead $18.23. (My total in Register Rewards, rebates, and savers card minus my $9.02 out of pocket).

Pretty good for about 30 minutes of shopping! And now I am totally stocked back up with lotion, toothpaste, Fiber One bars (Travis's FAVORITE breakfast), paper plates, and lots of other stuff.

You can't beat a hobby that earns you money and gets you FREE stuff!

Nothing Blog-worthy!

It's been so long since I last blogged, I thought I had better write something or people would start thinking I had been admitted to Vista or something. :) Just been busy, but nothing has been too fun or exciting.

Dottie and I finished up the Westwood book fair today. Together we run the Westwood and North Main book fairs. So, during the school year we spend a total of four weeks at book fairs!! I've been at Westwood all day every day for a whole week. I'm glad we get a week break before the North Main book fair starts. They are fun, but really, really exhausting.

One funny for the week. Blake got a donut one afternoon for snack at the bakery. Dottie had taken them after school and then took the boys to my parents house. So, I didn't actually see the donut. It came up later in the week, and I asked Blake what kind of donut he got. He said "one of those twisted ones, you know, that look like DNA". Seriously, he described his donut as a strand of DNA. He really is smarter than me!

Got tickets??

Sunday afternoon Blake and Evan were still grounded, and so they were supposed to spend the afternoon quietly playing in their rooms. I snuck off for a nap and when I woke up this is what I found.

Blake and Evan met me at my door and told me to go look on the bar for a ticket....Here's the ticket: (you should really click on it to see the bigger picture for the full effect!)

Blake was sitting outside his bedroom door with a hat on that said "door man".

This is where I was told to put my ticket!

And this is the magnificent display that was waiting for my viewing pleasure!!

He drew the background on a packing box and arranged the Legos "just so".

Not to be outdone, Evan was also waiting outside his door with a "door man" hat on!

These were the various signs on Evan's door (Blake had obviously helped a little).

And here is Evan's Lego creation! He also drew his own background. But first, he wrapped 3 boxes of coversation hearts in white paper and taped them to a book to make the background! Pretty cute and creative!!

So, that's what you get at my house when two brothers decide to actually play together and get along for an afternoon. I love it! It thrills me to see them playing together and helping each other and actually enjoying each other's company. After Evan's comment earlier in the week that he just didn't think he and Blake were meant to be brothers, an afternoon like this is good for a momma's heart!

Detention

Well, so I said I needed to be inspired. I was really hoping for some uplifting inspiration. Not so much. Today Blake came home with his very first detention slip. Yep, third grade and he's already been in detention. Not only that, but he's also the very first kid in his class to have to go to detention.

Gues what for? Sword fighting with another boy in GT class. Boy is he ever gifted and talented. He can sword fight with a pencil during the lesson AND draw blood on the other kid. Pretty impresive, huh? I bet my kid could beat your kid at pencil sword fighting...

So, we spent yet another afternoon talking about the value of respect and how important it is to obey at all times, not conforming to peer pressure...and on and on 'til I'm blue in the face. Seriously, how long can one kid be grounded. And you know, when he's grounded, I'm grounded. I'm so sick of grounded kids!!

Let's hope for some better days ahead. I just can't take any more bad ones...

Writers Block

That's what I have. I just can't think of anything to write about. We've had a super busy week, but to be honest, it's all just been too depressing to want to rehash.

Travis blogged this week on his "work" blog. Get this, he blogged about a how a project with some emblem on it in their office reminded him of the Twisted Sister logo. Seriously, did you even know Twisted Sister had a logo?

So, that's all I've got. Maybe I'll be inspired tomorrow...
